Bruce Moskowitz, CRPC®, AAMS®, AIF®
Bruce first realized his passion for finance when he was a student at the University of Georgia. Often, during hours at the library, he would take a break from studying by reading The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, and other financial publications. Realizing that he enjoyed finance far more than marketing and management, Bruce decided to follow his passion and became a financial advisor.
With a solid understanding of both the markets and his clients, Bruce's goal is to build financial plans that meet each investor's individual objectives and risk tolerance. In volatile times and periods of extremes (like now), Bruce puts his 35 years of experience to work, helping clients understand bull and bear markets, winning by not losing, and strategies on maximizing income stream in a near zero-percent interest rate environment. Bruce specializes in building long-term financial plans that help his clients to pursue goals, such as funding college for their children and grandchildren, retiring with confidence, and helping to ensure that their families have the resources in place to survive when they’re gone.
Because retirement is a huge concern for so many clients, Bruce undertook additional study to achieve additional expertise. He holds the Chartered Retirement Planning CounselorSM (CRPC®), an advanced designation for planning individuals’ retirements, and obtained the Accredited Asset Management SpecialistSM (AAMS®) and Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) credentials for his work with corporate sponsors, their retirement plans, and participant needs. Bruce founded Sterling Wealth Management in 2010 in order to provide his clients with independent advice and believes his ability to offer objective advice is a real advantage for clients.
Aside from four fun years at the University of Georgia and a few years in Atlanta, Bruce is proud to have called Wilmington home for his entire life. Deeply grateful for all he has achieved, Bruce believes in giving back and is actively involved in the Wilmington community. Bruce is a member of the University of North Carolina Wilmington Foundation Board of Directors. In addition, he was recently honored to be appointed to the Cape Fear Community College Board of Trustees. A passionate believer in education, Bruce is enthusiastic about the Foundation's work assisting the University in obtaining private gifts to support scholarship opportunities and enhance educational programs. He has also served on the boards of the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation, North Carolina Holocaust Council, North Carolina Hillel, and B'nai Israel Synagogue.
Bruce and his wife, Carolyn, have been married for 37 years, and have had the pleasure of raising three children (now grown and off the payroll living in Charlotte and Chapel Hill.) They are anxiously awaiting the birth of their first grandchild this fall. He’s been playing golf forever and finds it fun but has never been any good (rarely scoring below 100.)
Despite being voted “funniest” while in high school, Bruce has noticed that his wife doesn’t find him to be all that amusing, particularly at public speaking. He enjoys watching college basketball (Go, Duke!), college and professional football (Georgia Bulldogs and Carolina Panthers), and professional golf. Although he doesn’t watch a lot of television, the Masters Golf Tournament and the NCAA Basketball Final Four are his two favorite television events of the year. Bruce also loves the beach but prefers to be in the water to being on the water (if you’ve ever been seasick, then you understand!)

R. Bertram Williams III, Principal, CFP®
Bert was born in Nashville, Tennessee, while his father was attending Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He and his family moved to Wilmington when he was just six months old, and he has made it his home ever since. He graduated from New Hanover High School and made his way to UNC-Chapel Hill, where he graduated with a BS in business administration, later returning to Wilmington and working with a regional bank. After seven years with the bank, he decided that he wanted to do more in his career and be more successful for others and himself.
Now with more than 35 years of experience in financial services, if there is one thing that Bert knows, it is that there has been a lot of change. Bert regularly works with individuals seeking professional help in assuring that their funds will meet their life goals. Many of Bert’s clients are looking for assistance with the growth of their wealth, preparation for and generation of income in retirement, organization of their estate, and assurance that their wishes for loved ones are met.
In 1975, Bert married Melanie, his college sweetheart, and they have three wonderful children together. They are even lucky enough to now have four grandchildren, three in Raleigh and one in Wilmington. Bert’s thoughts on having grandchildren: it’s the best!
Bert has many interests outside of work. If the sun is out, so is he. He actually likes yard work, even if that makes him crazy! He even notes that he’s worked out many situations for clients while deep in thought behind the mower. Bert also enjoys growing vegetables, especially okra and sweet corn, and gives those veggies to clients, friends, and neighbors.
Bert loves anything to do with the water and considers himself fortunate to have a home at Wrightsville Beach, as it’s an opportunity for him to spend even more time with his grandchildren. Although he can be spotted on his boat—either picnicking with family or just sunset cruising around—he considers fishing both inshore and offshore as his favorite water sport. Having a deep respect for nature, he enjoys hunting for dove, duck, and deer.
Bert loves his country and feels blessed to be an American. He is an officer and active in his church, he is loyal to a fault about anything he believes in, and he respects loyalty in others.
He is involved in Boy Scouts and, looking back, feels that it was special time for him to be able to spend with sons (both of them achieved Eagle and he is very proud of that). Now he spends a fair amount of time volunteering at Council level.
About five years ago, Bert spent more than a year studying for the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM certification because he thought it would enhance the value that he brings to his clients. (A part of him wanted to see if an old guy could do it, and he did!) In 2015, he became certified as a National Social Security Advisor (NSSA) to better advise clients on social security matters critical to retirement security.
What Bert does more than anything else is work hard at his job. He has a burning desire to be successful for his clients and be the best he can be for his family. He will keep working until he can’t anymore!
